1. Moroccan wedding ensemble undershirt
Object: embroidered undershirt, part of a nine part Moroccan wedding ensemble, private collection
Date: late nineteenth century
Dimensions: 16" x 15.5"
Materials: silk velvet pile with cotton ground, cotton muslin, metallic thread, heavy paper embroidery backing
Treatment goals: to strengthen weak areas and minimize signs of deterioration, towards stabilizing the ensemble so it can continue to be worn for family weddings, and be passed down to future generations
Treatments undertaken: A muslin lining was added to protect the back of the embroidery, corrosion was mechanically removed from metallic embroidery, and a new tie was added to replace the original worn tie.
